Font - You don't want to pay a few bucks to your Uber driver for waiting? It's gonna cost you plenty there, Sparky!! SOC I drive for Uber in the Dallas area and have done so for about 7½ years. I accepted a reservation on the app for a trip from Royce City,

Font - TX [East of Dallas] to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport [about 60m or 100km] for 0430 the next morning. My payout showed to be $58 and some change so fairly good trip. I arrived 20 minutes early and at 0435 the rider called to because needed more time to get ready. I said no worries. I would wait as long as he needed. But then he wanted me to cancel the trip. His reason? He didn't want to pay for the waiting time or the cancellation fee. His "logic" was that when he was ready t

Font - Uber has a policy that if a driver is at the pickup location for a reservation on time and the ride is cancelled for any reason by either the driver or the rider, the rider still pays for the whole trip and not just a $5 cancellation fee. I tried to explain it to the rider and he cut me off rudely and asked, "Are you going to do this for me? If not, you can just piss off and I will arrange the ride without you." I went into my humble contrite mode while apologizing and asking his forgiven

Font - Marked it as a "no show". He paid Uber twice and I got paid twice for the trip. Wonder how long it took for him to realize it. Poor b even tipped me after he got to the airport. 192 Comments + Award

Font - virtual_gnus +2. 17 hr. ago Poor b even tipped me after he got to the airport. Yeah, you earned that tip with having to put up with him! I dislike Uber's (and Lyft's and DoorDash's, etc) business models, but if I was in this situation I'd just suck up the fact that I'm going to pay more than I originally planned. EDIT: And I'd be grateful that the driver was willing to wait! (That's kind of important!)

If I would have just waited for him on the clock, it would have cost him about $10 more. The way he wanted, he paid at least $70 more since he paid for the trip twice!!

Font - virtual_gnus 17 hr. ago +2. Wow! Yeah, $10 in this situation is nothing. I'd have paid it and thanked you for waiting!

Font - FloatingFreeMe 16 hr. ago Not particularly related, but I hate it when there's a wait for a ride, and about 8 minutes before a 15-minute pickup, the DRIVER cancels. So I have to order another one and I'm now behind schedule.

Font - StarsBear75063 OP 16 hr. ago Oh, I can relate. I only Uber a couple weeks a month and since I don't own my own car, I rent one from Avis to do my Ubering. Makes very good financial sense in that I'm driving a reasonably nice car without worrying about maintenance, etc. Prices under the Uber program are half of a regular Avis rental. Anyways... I take Uber to and from the Avis location which is a fairly good ride and a lot of times the Uber driver, for no explainable reason, cancels and th

Font - Plagiatus 15 hr. ago . $58 for a 100km trip?!? And that's a good one? Last time I needed a taxi to the airport at 4am I paid 50€ for a 23km ride. How big is Ubers cut? And is this take home pay or do you still need to pay gas and maintenance from this? I guess I see now why Uber can be so cheap... (And why it was outlawed/couldn't operate on the American model in most European countries)

Font - GiraffeCakeBowling 15 hr. ago I am staring at those numbers, and a 4am multi hour drive including pick up and waiting cannot be worth it at $58 if you think your time has any value, especially with a rental car and fuel costs. If your time is completely worthless to you, then I guess you're slightly better than breaking even, at best.

Font - StarsBear75063 OP 15 hr. ago I remember starting out my "service area" was slightly more than the City of Dallas. Now, it's the entire States of Texas and Oklahoma. I've actually done some Uber Eats in Arizona, Colorado, and Kansas. Could be anywhere as there would be very few regulations about delivering food as opposed to schlepping riders around!!
